Last week, I posted an opinion that it would be great if HP would make
available to someone the code for their TPC benchmarks on the 9000, so that
they could be ported to the 3000. Taking a shot in the dark, I emailed
someone at CSY asking about this possibility, and we have been discussing
the pros and cons of having TPC benchmark results on the 3000 (and not so
much porting them from the 9000, which might not be practical), as well as
what this would require, and how it might be accomplished (who would be
involved, and who would do what parts of the work?).

My efforts at a summary of our discussion would make for a rather long post.
But it begs the question of whether this is worth doing, and what the pros
and cons of doing this are. The TPC benchmarks are not a trivial thing to
understand, and I am not sure that I have correctly understood what I have
read. But there are few better ways to be disabused of misunderstanding than
to engage in discussion, and I hope that other interested parties might
benefit from such a discussion.

What do you think?
