This appears to be a duplicate of a problem that was described
here recently , i.e. backreferencing & ENV= do not work under 5.5.

SR is 4701339614, Larry Byler described what is causing it.

There should be nothing wrong with $OLDPASS, so maybe it works
w/o backreferencing:

!file output;dev=lp;env=$OLDPASS ??
