I've generally found that HP3000 professionals are a loyal
bunch that do less job hoping than other systems. Now this
could be a testament to the mentality of the companies which
choose MPE to run things for them. It's definitely a sellers
market where the MPE savvy are the sellers. The problem
is matching up the companies in need with the people. If
your willing to relocate, you can pretty much name your
own tune. If you want to stay put on the other hand, finding
a 3000 shop in need can be a challenge. I'd expect (and
in part betting my own future) that as the Internet becomes
a more pervasive entity, "work at home", telecommuting,
and "remote contracting" will start to level the playing
field somewhat. With the technology available today,
it's a simple matter for a business to take the same
concepts that drive distributed and client/server computing
and apply them to business management. That may
at first sound a little strange, but after thinking about it,
it makes sense (at least to me :)

Now, I was thinking how strange it is to have such a healthy job market for a
platform this is "biting the dust," doesn't have any non-posix compiler
updates coming out, and doesn't have a small/cheap platform for software
developers. Do you think the swing is going back toward in-house software
development?
