Chuck,

Can you be more specific? Which file is missing or corrupted?

  Hi Everyone,

I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop. My DVD drive isn't usable anymore (a month after warrenty expired of course). I have done all the usual stuff. Uninstall and try and install it.
Can't Install due to missing or corrupted file (driver I'm guessing). So not wanting to give it to an (in-store technology group) for fear it will be there forever, and/or screwed up worse, I decided to ask one of the "gurus" if I bought an EXTERNAL drive would I be able to use it?

"Sure you can. Just plug it in and it will load the software from your new drive"

Same error missing or corrupted file. Went to Internet site to see if I could download the driver files from there and plug it back in. No drivers on the site for this drive.

Seems like it can't load anything from any other source other than the hard drive or download from Internet.

Anyone had anything similar happen and do you know how to fix it ?

TIA,
Chuck
