We're using MPE/iX Network Printing to print to internet HP LaserJets with
JetDirect cards. Everything works fine. We have a new WAN connection set
up through a firewall. At the remote location is an HP LaserJet printer
with a JetDirect card. I configured this printer the same way, and
configured the appropriate proxies on the firewall (ports 9100, 161, 162).
I just found out that the firewall version we're using does not support
these SNMP packets going through the firewall, hence, the printer is
working.

My question: Is there a way to turn off the SNMP printer status checks? We
do have NBSPOOL, so I'm going to see if their network printing capabilities
use/need SNMP.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!
Tim Busche
