Omnidex has a product called OmniWindow which traps FREAD and can pop up query
window to select records and return then to the program. We use lots of escape
sequences. We also change the read terminator to ESC by using by setting either
binary mode or transparent mode (I don't remember). This has a problem over a
PAD. We've found a way around our problem by creating a PAD profile which has
data forwarding enabled. This means that it doesn't buffer characters at the
PAD. I don't know if this is relevant to your situation. The folks at the
HP response center have been very helpful once we isolated the problem.
