For you whippersnappers who don't remember Q-MIT, a hint: if HP gives a
release a _number_ that seems to imply a specific release date, it will be
late. That's why they quit giving them numbers that sounded like HP's
internal date codes. If they give it a _name_ that seems to imply a
characteristic, it won't. This is because these things are mandated by
managers, not the people who are trying to make it work. This is why the
current verb-based system will undoubtedly become history. Maybe they
could try using sequential numbers. Perhaps in a heirarchical construct
separated by dots. Then the do-ers could get coded messages to the users
without the managers knowing. :-)
The bottom line: Always ignore version codes when selecting which you
will install. Base your decision on what people (the ones you trust)
tell you about each version. For instance: HP announced Q-MIT as the
most carefully checked bug-free version of MPE ever. Well, Q-delta-2
actually was.
Just my $.01999998 worth (who took my 486?)
