Greetings from CA! Mark & I are back from our Philadelphia expedition,
having taken a few extra days after HP World to sightsee (Penn's Landing,
NJ Aquarium, Franklin Institute Science Museum, Fairmount Park).

I just wanted to let you all know how great it was to meet 3000-L members
in person! I'd previously met Alfredo back in '97 in Chicago, my first HP
World. Now I can put faces to the names of Gavin, Wirt, Birket, Ted, Rick,
donna, list owner Jeff K, and Mark K. (aka #2 Mark :-). I also got to meet
CSY's Peggy, On-On, Dave W. and "Jazzy" Jeff (I'd met Jon B. in San
Francisco last year).

Has everyone seen the photo of Rick & I from the CSY reception that Birket
put up on his site:

Mark & I viewed it on Friday from a PC at the Franklin Institute!

I was at Ann Livermore's talk Monday and heard her mention the "yellow
shirts." I participated in the applause that followed her mention of
MPE/iX. She likened the 3000 to the Volkswagen Beetle--something that has
lasted a long time and found its niche. She couldn't promise the moon, and
no one expected her to. But I hope from everything that occurred in the
summer of 2000 that HP "corporate" has learned something, 3000-L has
learned something, and a few years hence won't see a repeat of the "the
natives are getting restless" pattern.

My 15 minutes of fame (or infamy) are over, so I'll return you all to your
regularly scheduled programming, debugging, porting, patching and
(hopefully not too much) ranting.

This is Julie "who knew? I'd get myself into this" Bixby, signing off...
(but you know where to find me :-).
