I am reminded of the short story ... seems like it was by Ray Bradbury ...
of an automated house after a nuclear attack that continued to function, making
meals and calling off reminders to different people that no longer existed for
upcoming events.  Very eerie.

PS.  Thanks for all the information.  I guess the fact that I found it
enlightening
rather than maddening brings my sanity into question.
