Elbert, thanks for your feedback.

: I don't yet have the stuff to play with, but I have learned that to
: find a solution to a problem you need
: to be able to have enough trace/status information about the problem
: so you can analyze and then abort, correct, signoff, reboot or
: (final resort) kill the bloody person.
<snip>
: It means that we need to be able to not just abort the offending
: process, but to determine specifically who the guilty party was/is
: and to find out what they were doing.
: With that info, you then also attempt to make changes so it does not
: happen again.
<snip>
: I would expect that SQLMON and/or other tools will/should be able to
: provide this information. If SQLMON cant provide adequate info in the
: lab, then it will definately not provide enough info in the field.

I agree with everything you say. Before I joined the factory, I had to use
stuff and make it work. I've been at work on Saturday and Sunday trying to
figure out what that mysterious error message meant. I empathize. You
should have tools and knowledge that make it easy to resolve the problem.

Of course, if it costs too much to provide some useful feature then HP won't
let me come to work any more. So, I try to get the most bang for the buck
and identify the 20% of a feature that solves 80% of a problem. I suspect
that visibility of the IP address alone in SQLMON and other performance tools
might make it tremendously easier to support C/S on the 3000. But I want
to hear from the experts (namely you).

: I hope this general response helps.....

It does, and I look forward to other conversations in the future!
