IBM's JCL is a lot like HP's job language...

!JOB = //JOB
!FILE = //FILENAME DD DSN=actual file name
!RUN = //STEPNAME EXEC PGM=
!EOJ = //

When I was with HP I used to present Technical Awareness seminars for
our larger prospects demonstrating the similarities in that aspect of
the architecture.

TSO is going to be the equivalent of logging on to an HP...it's
interactive access.

PANVALET doesn't really have a counterpart in the MPE world, but it's a
file library management system that is used (at least in my experience)
for source code version management and control...

Subject: [HP3000-L] JCL VS MPE

I got back into mainframes this week. Unfortunately it's not with HP.
It is with a large industrial company near chicago. They are sending me
monday to a class to learn JCL and cobol so I can program on their IBM
mainframe. i'm not sure what model, they are located states away.
We just log in via "extra" which is basically like WRQ Reflections from
what I can tell..

I was hired as an entry level programmer based on my past 'mainframe'
(HP3k) experience. I was told after classes next week they will assign
me a mentor and then it's off to the races I go. I hopefully I can learn
cobol in 2 weeks. It doesn't look too bad. It's pretty structured but
I'm getting the hang of it..

Anyone out there work with JCL, tso, or panvalet before? Any advice?
