Along the lines of the "nasty rumor-soon to be confirmed or denied", I was
just reading my November 2001 HPWorld magazine. It contains a letter to the
editor from Dave Swartz, vice president of Security Applications, Inc (SAI).
Apparently, SAI makes electronic security systems that run on HP-UX and one
of their customers is HP (in particular, the HP facility at Roseville, CA).
HP has instructed SAI that
"the company [HP] will not consider any internal solution based on any
platform other than Windows NT/2000 for worldwide deployment."
Mr. Swartz then observes:
"HP's position has now raised doubts in the marketplace about the viability
of HP's UNIX or Linux products...HP-UX is probably doomed, and forget about
MPE. I guess the HP community is not concerned about its future."
Interesting, isn't it?
