On the contrary, I always prefer to use the HP modem. Although a little
slow, it is a known quantity and the handshaking always works properly.
Most people just hook their own modems up to whatever phone line
happens to be available and the higher the speed the worse the noise.
It may work fine when you are connecting to it locally but it doesn't
work so well when called long-distance. The phone line should be
dedicated for the modem and should be an equalized line to eliminate
noise.

Besides, I can't read faster than 2400 baud anyway.
