We've recently switched from using Reflections to ftp for transferring
files from a PC to an HP3K. Unfortunately, some of these files have
extended characters in them, and near as I can tell, ftp has no way of
specifying a translation table to go from PC-850 to Roman-8. Has
anybody encountered this before? What have you done to solve the
problem?

My current thinking is that I should use TR.HPBIN.SYS to translate the
file from PC-850 to Roman-8. Being a lazy (er ... cost-effective)
fellow, I'm wondering if someone else may have already done this and
would they mind sending me a copy of what they did.

Depends what ftp client you're using. Microsoft's won't do any character
set conversion.

Suggest you take a look at <www.minisoft.com/xlat.htm> and
<www.minisoft.com/nft.htm>.
