I know what you mean, we here live under the path taken by most
international flights (the local paper said about 600 flights a day). When
all planes were ordered to ground a friend of my happen to check out the sky
and watched planes do a u-turn above us. A large amount of diverted planes
landed in Halifax (they were afraid to send them to Toronto) and
accommodations for people were strained to the max.
The back log at Halifax is just starting to clear up, but there are still
lots of stranded passengers.

Most people also do not know that ships also turned into the nearest port.
Three cruise ships with about 6300 passengers arrived here in Sydney the
other day. I believe that all the ships were from New York so this must have
been an extremely stressful stop for them. The local community did its best
to help and comfort the passengers.
