Of course you can place a "START RECOVERY" (or simply "START") instead of a
START NORECOVERY in the autoboot file - and it's really a matter of
preference.

There are benefits and drawbacks with both alternatives.

A "START RECOVERY" has the benefit of preserving your scheduled jobs.
However, you will lose all dynamic configuration changes you made since you
last booted with a START NORECOVERY option.

Another problem with START RECOVERY is that the next time you try to make
SLT configuration changes, the default "working" configuration group will
become "BOOTUP" to which no changes can be made. If you know your way
around SYSGEN, you can overcome that - but this "feature" has spooked at
least several system admins I know.

The problem with log processes not properly re-starting is simply one of
timing and is easily dealt with.

I think which option is better really depends upon the specific
characteristics of the computing environment - and whether as a general
rule it's preferable to lose dynamic config. changes - or scheduled jobs.
You must choose one over the other.

My use of START NORECOVERY was not meant as a recommendation of that option
instead of the alternative.

In any case, the autoboot feature can be very convenient if used properly.
