Actually, I think everyone is missing the real point of what is going on here.

Are HP really being "nice" to us or is there another reason for all of this?

You bet there is -- they fear having companies with HP3000's suing them for 
$10 million bucks apiece when these critical bugs cause their system to come 
to their knees thus putting them out of business and so on. So HP's only 
solution was to fix the bugs very quickly.

If the jokers at HP were truly concerned about its HP3000 community they 
would re-instate the box immediately. Although Carly whats-her-name was the 
instigator of the demise of the HP3000 she is now gone, long gone (Carly 
who?) but the fact that the "powers that be" at HP have not re-instated the
box makes them all guilty of complicity. Every one of them are guilty. I include 
in this list of complicitors all the companies who have (or are still planning to)
migrate off the HP3000 onto other inferior platforms (IBM, Sun, DEC/VAX etc). 

As I have said many times before, John Lennon got blown away for doing a lot 
less than these assassins, a lot less!

Although I haven't experienced any problems on my box, I will download the 
patches anyway and install them on my trusty "little" 917 for posterity's sake.
