Hi Mark :)
   Interesting issue about trash and recycling... .We here in Oregon like
to do our best to recycle as much as possible... but I find the answers I
get interesting when I ask some of our more zealeous "recyclers" who gripe
at me that I don't recycle everything 'bout other countries recycling
programs...

    When I was in Japan (bout 10 years ago) they just burned the trash
outside the buildings ... tho' the "fireplaces" did have about 20 foot high
chimmey's ... the smoke was very very smelly... and black and sorta filled
with flakes from the plastic... They didn't do to much recycling... Wonder
if it has changed?

    And I don't think I agree with teh comment that poor people have really
bad habits with respect to the environment... Some do (Panama '93 where
garbage was just chucked in the street) and some don't  Parts of Mexico and
Jamica where it is dirt poor but no worse than east Portland for the
cleaniness of the neighborhood... I don't personally think it is the amount
of money one has but one's attitude that decide how one lives and treats
the environment.

     And isn't it New Jersey that we joke about being the "Garbage State"
hehehe (just kidding :) )

A hot topic locally is why does Michigan take garbage from Canada? Are we
Canada's "poor country"? ;-)
