I need the benefit of your knowledge and combined
wisdom! Am I scraping the bottom of the barrel or
what?!

I have a process that produces multiple flat files
during the day, that then need to be FTP'd to a remote
box. The developer on the other side (who is working
on Windows 2000 - poor sod), wants me to send him a
single file containing all the information for the
day. [...]40_25Oct200200:08:[log in to unmask]

From the 3rd party software vendor world, there is By Request from Hillary
Software. Their web site is www.hillarysoftware.com.

For the do-it-yourself solution, you could try to use SAMBA. First, create
a group and account that will act as a place for your reports. Then
download and configure the latest version of SAMBA for MPE/iX. Have SAMBA
allow you to create a network drive that is homes on to this report
group.account. Now for the reports themselves, change the JCL so that the
report is created as a flat file in this report group.account.

The result is a place on the HP, which can be accessed by anyone that has
this SAMBA SHARE as a network drive, for all your reports.

Enjoy and get EXTREME!!

Subject: connecting to an HP3000 from code on a client station

I'm trying to automate a bunch of tasks here in the office and i was
trying to cut down on data redundancy. here everyone takes the reports
generated by the hp and downloads them as text files and cut-and-pastes
them into excel... what i'm trying to do is automate that in code, but i
don't know how to throw commands at the HP as we are running reflections
to do all client-server communications and the database system that
we're using is the only thing that it will connect to.

would apreciate any advice you may have on this subject... as i'm not
really even sure where to begin.

Thank You
Ben
