Are you sure that the printer is set to transmit Xon/Xoff's? And are you sure
that the return line is actually physically present (insuring that there is
no broken wire, bad solder joint, etc)? A printer will act exactly as you
describe if the Xon/Xoff characters aren't reaching the DTC.
