Perhaps, being unemployed, they couldn't afford writing implements. ;-)

Having a number of children, this is the normal state of my wallet. :-)

Seriously, I began keeping my ID and credit cards in a separate card case
because otherwise my almost-two-year-old daughter "lifts" them and plays
with them until they're "all gone!" (And if you think it's hard to recover a
stolen driver's license, try finding one several hours after a toddler has
played with it...)
