Tracy -

A quick search reveals that all of the download files are compressed files.
You have options (the bane of Linux). Make sure you downloaded the right
one - there is no right one (supported one) for Mandriva. Generally
speaking, the problems you would encounter have to do with incompatible
versions of the C library that the different versions were compiled
against. Another problem for the pointy-clicky Windows group, is that you
are going to be using a tar ball. The Windowsy application, file-roller,
should make unpacking the tarball fairly easy, if you know where Mandriva
expects to find the files. Otherwise, you will have to use the command line
'tar' to unpack it, and make sure that everything ends up in the right
place. A more Linuxy group would have you do a 'make install' that would
(should) figure out where your distribution, Mandriva, is expecting the
files to be located, and put them there. Of course, if they were really
Linuxy folks, you would be doing a 'make' to complile the GPLed code to
begin with, and the Linux distribution/version would not make any
difference, as your Linux configuration, libraries, and layout would be
included in the compiled executable, customized and optimized to your
hardware and distribution.

Have you read the 'Readme.txt'? They do make the unpacking and
decompression a 2 step process due to their Unix background, but it is
really only one step with a Linux installation whether using 'file-roller'
(GUI) or 'tar' (CUI).
