This morning in my inbox I got a message sent to me and 799 of my closest
friends :) Yup, somebody sent a message directly to me and just about
everyone else on the comp.sys.hp.mpe newsgroup and/or hp3000-l mailinglist
looking for a protos programmer. Considering the recent "statistics" Jeff
posted, I'm curious as to which group of people he actually ended up sending
this to [note: the "799" above is a WAG]

In any case, I've sent the guy a nice [long] letter explaining [nicely!] that
it is quite likely his request would fall on deaf ears because many "spam
filters" would treat his message as such and drop it without letting you
folks know he sent it. I further suggested he might get better results by
actually registering for this list and posting legitimately and let the
listserv/newsgroup do the "spamming" for him
