I'm not following you here, Don.  You want to do something like:
 
ACCESS Detail-1 link to Detail-2 (limit 1)     ??
 
What's in D-2 that causes you to want 'the linkage' and not the record?
What possible ways can you link to D-2 from D-1?  Is D-1 to D-2 and
1-to-many or many-to-many relationship?
