Sorry to hear that, Robert - you always sounded like someone who knew
where his MPE towel was.
I think I may have got the last HP3000 contract available in the UK last
April - certainly, there's been nothing since - but it finishes at
Christmas, and the client goes into 'batten down the hatches' mode
halfway through an Oracle conversion.
Paradoxically, that means that they keep some HP3000 systems running
indefinitely, instead of converting them next year, but the two permies
who are left will be taking care of it all, plus the first-line Oracle
support.
As I said to them, if I'm gone, I'll try not to care (about them, not
about me) but I don't think I'm built that way, and I *will* care...
As for me, at one year off that Beatles song, I may be forced to spend a
lot of time lazing on a terrace in Spain. But if I am, my holiday
reading will be 'Oracle E-Business Suite Manufacturing and Supply Chain
Management'.
Because those guys have been pulling down something north of twice what
I've been getting, and if I know anything, it's how to match
requirements to system, especially in manufacturing. So I just need to
know what this sucker can actually do...
And if nobody bites, what the hell. I just need to get this car paid for
- now, how do I get some money at that 2% the Bank Rate now is, so I can
pay off the existing loan?
