get "Mutts" by Patrick McDonnell ... it's wonderful.
Not as biting as C&H could be at times, but my favorite strip for
the past few years.

Or, click/pulldown for other dates...
The Thursday, April 25, has a strong C&H feel.
(The Sunday strips are the best, but they don't appear to be on the web)

Amazon info: (I've got about 6 or 7 of his collections)

Quote from Charles Schultz:
What's the highest compliment I can pay Patrick McDonnell? He keeps coming up
with ideas I wish I had thought of myself.
"To me, 'Mutts' is exactly what a comic strip should be. It is always fun to
look at, and the two main characters are wonderfully innocent. Patrick has
created a little world that exists within itself. Everyone in 'Mutts,' from the
little pet fish to the butcher behind his counter, is funny. Earl, of course,
holds it all together and, as always, it is the way he is drawn that makes him
so good. It's hard to believe that after 100 years of comics, Patrick could
come up with a new and perfect little dog. I like everything about 'Mutts.'"

So said "Peanuts" creator Charles Schulz in the foreword to the first "Mutts"
anthology.

From: http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/mutts/bioMaina.htm :

While Mutts is still relatively new to the comics pages, it has already
received a high level of recognition. McDonnell received the comic book
industry's esteemed Harvey Award for "Best Syndicated Strip" (named after
Harvey Kurtzman, creator of Mad Magazine) for Mutts in 1998 and also received
the National Cartoonists Society's "Best Comic Strip of the Year Award" and
Germany's Max and Moritz "International Cartoonist of the Year" Award that
year. In November 1997, McDonnell was honored with the prestigious Adamson
Statuette from the Swedish Academy of Comic Art for "Best International Comic
Strip Artist." He has also been nominated four out of five years since Mutts'
debut for the National Cartoonists Society's highest honor, the Reuben Award,
taking home the prestigious prize in 1999 for exemplary work the previous year.
