The work you are searching for is "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by
Ambrose Bierce which was made into a movie in 1962. It is a very powerful
story. You are confusing it with another title, "The Oxbow Incident" by
Walter van Tilberg Clark which was made into a movie in the Forties.
