Hello all,

Does anybody have experience using multiple instances of character-mode based
applications on the HP3000 ? I was once told that MPE is not designed for this
type of application, and that interrupting the CPU for every character would have
a big performance impact. This now seems to happen at one of our customer sites.
With >20 simultaneous Uniface users on a model 957 they are running into severe
performance problems.

Why is it that UNIX does not seem to have this problem ? Or does it ? In any case
all portable UNIX applications are characater based. Would MPE/iX 5.0 be an
improvement ? I'd suppose this should be able to handle char mode I/O efficiently
if it is to promote porting of UNIX apps to the HP3000.

Thanks for any insights !
