Now that I got LYNX to work, it apparently only works with internal
web-pages.  I can go to the Apache web pages for my company's other
HP3000's for example, but I can't get to Google.

I have two suspicions:

1)  Is port 80 blocked for this machine?

2)  Do I need to point to a DNS server in some config file?
