Chuck,

It is this kind of pricing mentality that brought about the demise of the HP3K.

I can think of several vendors that think they should be rewarded when a
customer what's to improve performance by adding additional CPU's.  Even if
that additional CPU is for a different application.

The money we're talking about is not nickel and dime stuff either.  One vendor,
let's call them Vendor E, wanted over 200K just to add a fourth processor to a
979.  The fourth processor was need for a home grown warehousing application.

This pricing stucture is also what is pushing Linux.  Come on, you didn't think
Linux was advancing because it was a better alternative.
