Scott's right. Check with your 3rd party vendors BEFORE you commit to an upgrade. We were going to go from 5.5pp7 to 6.5, but only 1/3 of our 3rd party software has even been tested on 6.5 and two of them won't work at all. One of those is a major application, so we're moving to 6.0pp2......

Folks,

Just a reminder after reading the page referenced. There does not seem to
be the general reminder that before moving to a newer version of the
Operating System that you (the CUSTOMER) are responsible for contacting ALL
of the 3rd party software vendors and verifying support and usability by
their software.

We have several customers that have moved onto 6.5 and now are finding
significant problems that are still being addressed by Hewlett Packard.

It is always great to be current or better, but if your production machine
is down because you were excited about being the first on the block to have
6.5 or any other software version, a little prudence may help you in your
decision.

Thanks Scott.

Subject: [HP3000-L] MPE/iX 6.5 PowerPatch 1 Release Date

Hi all,

Just got the following from "HP Smartfriend" and thought I'd pass it on.
The last I heard, 6.5 PP1 was coming out "sometime around October," so
this is welcome news. :-)

> Hi Patrick Santucci,

> HERE'S THE LATEST FROM HP SMARTFRIEND:
<snip>
> --- MPE/IX RELEASE 6.5, POWERPATCH 1 COMING IN SEPTEMBER (Article)

> 1 is expected to be available in September, 2000. PowerPatch
> 1 is a collection of General Release patches which
> have been released and tested with MPE/iX 6.5. The MPE/iX 6.5
> base release contains numerous performance and capacity
> enhancements that will allow for more growth in high- end enterprise

Sorry for any wrap (it should end with "=22392"). Do read the article at
the link, since it contains, among other things, the end of support date
for MPE/iX 6.0.

Regards,
Patrick
