For Roger Rohrs and others who may be lurking:

I would not recommend removing your 9144 tape drive off your HP3000 Series
37.

Instead just "add" your new tape drive using a new LDEV number (of course
you'll have to figure out the new DRT, channel number, and driver name).

Also being a Series 37, Check to make sure your "new" tape drive is built
with an HP-IB (IEEE) interface instead of SCSI. I don't think they ever
made a SCSI interface for the Series 37 (or GX, or XE).

My reason for NOT deconfiguring the 9144 is that I may suspect that your
"new" tape drive may not be usable as a 'boot' device whereas your 9144
probably has already several 'confirmable' cold load tapes built off of it.

You can still make small 'cold load' tapes off your 9144 and put your
regular back-ups on your new tape drive(s). This is doable even for
RELOADS if you make your Cold Load tapes properly and just include @.SYS
with the directory option.

(I used to include @[log in to unmask] and @[log in to unmask] also in my Cold Load tapes. That
way, I could have BACKPACK and MPEX right away without getting them off the
regular backup's. We had a 7979 on LDEV 7 for the Cold Load tapes and a
third party DDS on LDEV 8 for the regular backups.)

This brings back memories!
