i *thought* when hp introduced the ups utility with 7.5, it included
the ability to 'trap' over-temp messages. looking at my communicator,
i don't see any mention of it. maybe someone from hp knows...?
hp added the ups monitoring per the community's request (via the sib).
if the system gets a message from a ups unit that power has failed, you
have the ability to configure a 'grace period' (amount of time to wait)
before doing a *graceful* system shutdown. ...and that's where the new
shutdown command comes into play. if your grace period timer expires,
you can quiesce the system and shut it down -- all with no operator
intervention.
