A part of me is asking: "Does the C-level refer to their maximum
academic achievement or just indicative of their IQ? Or, perhaps this
says more about the intellectual capacity of the editors rather than
the audience."
Sarcasm aside I sometime find the word 'grid' and using the metaphor
of being on or off the grid as having some resonance with non-IT savvy
folks. Not that there are many of these to found any more.
Another idea, but one I have not used myself, is to use the cellular
telephone system as an example of a 'network infrastructure' and go
from there. There cannot be too many people left in North America
that are unaware of the cellular system and the towers that provide
coverage together with the concepts of service area and no-signal.
