I would like any help that this group can provide in resolving two issues:

1) What are adequate staffing levels?

2) How much training (in days), including conferences and specific skill
building courses, does your staff typically get each year?

Like many of you, my boss is in charge of our financial systems. He has
asked that I compile information on the subjects above.

1) Adequate staffing levels

I would appreciate the following information:
 - Number & types of servers (HP3000, UNIX, Novell etc)
 - Services offered:
   - E-Mail
   - Internet access
   - Etc.
 - Number of connected devices (users, printers, hubs and routers)
  - Number of PC's
  - Number of terminals
 - Do you have a LAN, a WAN using X.25, frame relay, ATM etc.
   - Does the WAN include international coverage?
 - Support level supplied - i.e. 7X24
 - Type of organization - i.e. we are a manufacturing company. Our business
includes sales, mfg, depot service and engineering. We currently use a
relatively old MRPII system for most of the standard business type
functions.
 - Approximate number of staff in each of the following areas:
   - Programming (development and support)
   - Computer Operations
   - Networking & Desktop support

2) The next area is training. Input about the annual frequency and type of
training is what I need, not specific events. Is this training specific,
i.e., an Image/SQL class or does your staff also typically also attend
general conferences. If you group attends general conferences, a brief
"why" would be appreciated.

If anyone knows of a source where this type of information is already
available, please let me know.

Your help will be appreciated!
