HTML is in fact a subset of SMGL (simple graphics markup language). I was in
the HTML 1.0 ratification group and pushed hard for a full implementation of
SMGL. In 1993 I could see where this, the web, was going and knew we would
need much better text handling than HTML. Even with the Netsacpe extensions
it still is nothing compaired to SMGL.
