For property control, you can use special label stock that is effectively
ruined if it is peeled off - that would mean "they" can't receive a new
coffemaker and return a worn out one with the same label. This label stock
has a backing that makes the view from the front apear a certain way. The
backing is embossed so that if it is peeled off the surface, a pattern of
backing adhears, and the pattern shows through the front of the label. An
example of the pattern might be "VOID".

Apply it accross two surfaces that would have to be separated in order to
remove a component, and you can detect whether the customer has "serviced"
the equipment, or, whether they put the cover from the new brewer onto the
old broken down brewer.

Another choice is a label that is die-cut so that it will only peel off in
pieces.

Most of Zebras printers can use both direct thermal and thermal
transfer. The application that Art was referring to are labels that are
attached to brewing equipment that we loan out. In the old days we did
it to a paper stock with a clear overlay. Now we go directly to a Mylar
label that's almost indestructible.

FWIW we are starting put them on JetDirects. Currently I have them
slaved off of terminals and the application just uses escape sequences
to pass the data.

Hi John ;)
Lane Rollins can give a better more complete answer... but Boyd
Coffee
uses Zebra's for equipment tags ... and they held up pretty well to the
customer's usage of the equipment and the warehousing of equipment...
