  I wouldn't do it...
   
  Actually you might be able to do it, depending on what application you are running and what type of disc sub-system you have...
   
  The problem comes from the 997 has 12 * 180mhz processors.   The Transaction Manager is a single threaded process, that has to search memory for dirty pages.... 
   
  At 180Mhz it takes about 66 seconds to search 10GB of memory and post to disc... Yes I timed it.
   
  If your system is not heavy write access and all you are doing is reporting?  Then upgrade the PDC firmware and maxout the memory.
   
  If you have a heavy duty transaction processing application, with lots of writes and updates... Then you may get by with a couple tricks, like expanding the XM log file.
   
  Of course you could always put it in, and then pull it out if it doesn't work... :-)
