     Gary;

I have been working with a client which uses OCS Librarian on the
HP3000 for their software tracking. It currently operates well as
long as multiple development on the same piece of software does not
occur. Fortunately, OCS has the ability to support this feature,
which they call branching. Unfortunately, the client's HP development
accounting structure needs to be changed from what is currently used
to support a clean implementation of this feature. We are still
attempting to evaluate what happens under each of the different
development scenarios and I will keep you posted as to our findings,
if you or anyone else is interested.

Unfortunately, this does not address the issue of software tracking on
other platforms, but I thought it might be helpful.

You may also check the posts I started around 6/14 & 6/17 on 'Concurrent
Software Development' for other responses on this subject.

Let me know what you decide...

Hi all,

I'm in the process of evaluating version control packages for our
company and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. The
product must be able to handle multiple applications, on PCs (running
DOS, OS/2), HP3000 and HP9000s. It would also have to be able to run
scripts to compile programs (COBOL and C), know about KSAM files (for
COBOL copybooks on our HP3000), and be user friendly. The product must
be capable of handling large projects as we have several which consist
of 1100+ modules. Our environment is fairly complex, with programmers
in one area being unaware of programmers in another area, so if it is
possible I'd like to be able to "screen" destinations/sources from
users based on ID. Due to the multiple platforms, the product would
probably have to be a windows interface (win 3.1).

I am currently evaluating VCS-UX from Diamond Optium. It seems able to
do the job, Im just looking for any other products that are out there.

Anyway, any suggestions/recommendations would be welcome.

TIA,
