[Long tirade about PC printing problems snipped]

Once again, I'm left in the dust by a logical ability that far surpasses
my own:

Observation: I can't get my Wintel machine to print.
Conclusion: Macintoshes are junk.

Wow... a Zen master at work. Truly humbling.

Well, the one I'm writing this on can access five at the moment,
including one that's at home (I'm at the office) and two at a client's
site in another state. It used to be seven, but I'm not counting two of
them because they're shut off at the moment and Apple has neglected to
give me control of their power switches. (Hopefully, that's fixed in
MacOS X. I'll send in a bug report, just in case.)

PS. For what it's worth, Photoshop is very demanding when it comes to
printer drivers. Since it's designed for professional applications, it
tries to preserve color appearance throughout the
scan/create-manipulate-proof-print workflow, including correcting color
values to match a given printer's color characteristics. The Windows
platform has very poor system-level support for this (it was never a
priority for Microsoft), so Photoshop supplies its own. There may be a
problem with the printer driver being mis-installed or missing some
pieces. If you don't need end-to-end color control, you might be better
off with a lower-end package that just lets the driver manage color
conversions. If you do need end-to-end color control, get a Mac :-).
