Hi,

we are using remote-dtcs for a long time, now.
There are two posibilities, you can use:
1. Use some kind of remote connection (does not matter, what kind) and bridging!!
   - this keeps you all features and also allows configuration on the 3000 (no openview)
2. Since 5.0 (i believe) HP offers routable afcp. The drawback is, that you need newer dtcs and openview pcs on both sides. The advantage is, that you can run the dtc over tcp/ip and routers.

My experiences show, that the first method is much cheaper and easier to manage, than the second one. Also, modern routers can do bridging, too. So you will not have to buy an extra bridge to do the task.
What you should recognise is not to bridge all traffic over this connection, but only the traffic between the dtc and the 3000. This can be done by configuring a filter on the bridge/router.

Kind regards

Klaus Franke

Betreff: Remote DTCs

In the past months there has been some discussion on this list about using
DTCs remotely. I didn't follow it too closely, because I never though I
was going have to do anything like that! Now I find myself involved with
an installation that is going to have a DTC at a remote site connected with
frame relay, and I have several questions that I hope someone can answer.
Just to complicate matters, this installation is in South America.

1) The phone company is saying that we can run TCP/IP over frame relay.
From what I know this sounds reasonable, but has anyone on the list any
experience of it?

2) Can any DTC be run remotely, or do we need one of the more recent (and
considerably more expensive) DTCs? Is there anything special about the
routers needed or their configuration?

3) Can the remote DTC be configured using NMMGR? Do we need 5.5 to do
this? If we need Openview, does it have to be on the same segment as the
remote DTC or can it be anywhere on the network (it seems to me, that if
the DTC can download through the routers from Openview, it should be able
to do the same thing from the HP3000)?
