If you've enabled DNS (RESLVCNF.NET.SYS) then you can gethostbyname() or
or gethostbyaddr() from the BSD library and you've got the host structure
(which has name, address, aliases, etc).  It's not that difficult, but...
I'm waiting on Eero to pipe in here any minute...
