TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 brings new features in MPE/iX 5.5

TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 will be released with MPE/iX 5.5. This new version of
TurboSTORE brings several new features as well as a "True Online Backup
capability." The major new features include:

True Online with sync at start of backup
True Online with sync at end of backup
Store to disc
Online Store directory
Full and Partial Database STORE/RESTORE
Control of log file location.

True Online Backup

You invoke the True online functionality with the ";ONLINE = START" or
";ONLINE = END" options. TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 will quiesce all TurboImage and
all Allbase databases and snapshot all other files on the system. It will
do this either at the beginning or the completion of the backup. TurboSTORE
has been integrated TurboImage and Allbase/SQL and DBRECOV to ensure database
consistency and recoverability. With TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 and DBRECOV you will
be able to restore your database and roll forward to the most recent
transaction. TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 and DBRECOV relies on explicit transactions
and not inferred logical transactions for recovery. Having TurboSTORE/iX 7x24
use an inferred logical transaction at sync point is of little value if
DBRECOV cannot roll forward to a logical transaction.

Store to disc
TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 allows you to specify disc file(s) as the destination.
This is done as follows:

FILE BACKUP;DEV=DISC
STORE @;*BACKUP;SHOW;...
or
FILE BACKUP1;DEV=DISC
FILE BACKUP2;DEV=DISC
FILE BACKUP3;DEV=DISC
FILE BACKUP4;DEV=DISC
STORE @[log in to unmask]@;;STORESET= (*BACKUP1), (*BACKUP2), (*BACKUP3), (*BACKUP4);SHOW

If one of the backup files fills up TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 will create (disc
space allowing) another file to complete the backup.

Online Store directory

With the release 5.5 of TurboSTORE you have ability to keep an online store
directory. This is the default if you use the ";ONLINE=END" option.
Otherwise you can get this using the ";STOREDIRECTORY" option. RESTORE will
use this directory to optimize restore performance. You can use the ";LISTDIR"
option with RESTORE to see which files are on which backups.

Full and Partial Database STORE/RESTORE

A common cause of database corruption in the past has been the restoration
of part of a database. In the 5.5 release of TurboSTORE options ";FULLDB"
and ";PARTIALDB" have been added. When ";FULLDB" (this is the default for
a true online backup) is specified, TurboSTORE gets a list of files from the
database and stores the entire database. This will include index files if
indexing is active. The ";PARTIALDB" option will allow storing/restoring of
a single database file.

Control of log file location.

TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 use disc space to hold change information during an online
backup. The default area is to use the disc where the file resides. In
release 5.5 TurboSTORE/iX 7x24 allows you to specify a volumeset to place
all log files. You do this with the ";LOGVOLSET=..." option.

Free trial for 90 days

A free trial copy is built into release 5.5 of the MPE/iX operating system.
You can activate the trial with the following command :

STORE;;DEMOSTORE=START

This will start your 90 day free trial. You need not fear for lose of data
as the RESTORE which is included in the MPE/iX operating system can restore
any TurboSTORE tape. If you decide you do not want to use the trial software,
you can disable it with the following command:

STORE;;DEMOSTORE=STOP

You can switch back and forth if you want. However your 90 days is computed
from the first invocation of the "STORE;;DEMOSTORE=START" command.
