I do all you listed & more from my home desktop, work desktop, & Toshiba
Laptop all running Debian Linux & KDE2.2beta1 for the desktop.

email: Kmail
Browser: Konqueror, Netscape, Mozilla, or Opera
Office Suite: Star Office 5.2 or KOffice
Printing is straight forward using the new print wizard with KDE2.2beta1 (it
uses CUPS Common Unix Printing System)
Web Stuff is easy, choose your editor of choice, my favorites are Quanta &
Kate for coding HTML, PHP, Java, and Python.
Graphics for the web: The Gimp
Burn with command line cdrecord & choose from a multitude  of GUI's for
cdrecord (i use KonCD)
Streaming media: Real Player for Linux
DVD: Xine with the CSS stuff

oh yah...cost. Free.
I'm yet to find a doze app I can't replace on linux.
