Chris Bartram describes ORBS and other blocking services...

An example from NetMail on how this works, right from the ERRORLOG file that

This uses ORCA --- and I'm looking forward to seeing ORBS again.  Turning
this feature on is a matter of setting a JCW in the jobstream.  It's really
"set it and forget it".  SPAM here has decreased about 92% (based on what
was filtered and refused, and what got through).  It's one of the main
reasons we use NetMail (the other being that it runs on an HP3000 - an
important factor - and it has an API callable from routines on the host)

Even if you have Exchange or another mail system, I wholeheartedly recommend
NetMail even for use as a Mail Gateway.  It can forward to other SMTP
servers inside and will filter most of the garbage (nothing filters ALL of
it unfortunately).

Oh yes - and the inclusion of these services (MAPS, ORBS, ORCA, etc) do not
cost the user one cent, so you get NetMail's Spam list (we update ours daily
via automated FTP directly from 3K), but the exclusion services.  Most mail
systems require the user to "hand tool" the spam filter files.  3K does this
for you!

Enough of a plug -- It's a great product, from a great company.
