Hi David,

if I understand it right you have a Nike Model 10 Disk Array with 10 (?) 9
GB Disks.
Two of them have been configured with gridmgr in RAID 1, and you want to
use this pair for LDEV 1.

This is possible - we have a similiar setup.

If you want to have your 9 GB disk pair as LDEV 1 you need to run an
INSTALL of course, and at the end the system will only know 4 GB out of
these 9 GB for LDEV 1. This is the meaning of supported in this context:
not 9 GB are supported on LDEV 1 (but 9 GB disks, only 4 GB will be
useable).

On a test system I have two internal 9 GB disk, and LDEV 1 looks finally
like a 4 GB disk:

LDEV : 1 -- (MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBER1)
 Device | 16777200 | 8361536 ( 50%) | 8415664 ( 50%) |
 Permanent | 12582864 ( 75%) | 7880784 ( 47%) | 4702080 ( 28%) |
 Transient | 12582864 ( 75%) | 480752 ( 3%) | 8415664 ( 50%) |

LDEV : 2 -- (MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBER2)
 Device | 35547040 | 17429200 ( 49%) | 18117840 ( 51%) |
 Permanent | 26660272 ( 75%) | 16744848 ( 47%) | 9915424 ( 28%) |
 Transient | 26660272 ( 75%) | 684352 ( 2%) | 18117840 ( 51%) |

... you see the difference in DISCFREE ?

Best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC, Germany

Subject: [HP3000-L] Model 10 Array and 9GB Drives on MPE/ix

Hello Good People,

I am in the process of setting up a Model 10 Disk Array for a customer with
an MPE/ix box and have configured a 9GB RAID1 volume (non-system) on it.
MPE/ix is able to see the volume and all of the sectors that should be
there. The manual for the array states that 9GB drives aren't supported
under MPE/ix. Can anyone tell me if that's a reference to 9GB on LDEV1 or
is there some other 'gotcha' that I'm not seeing yet? I say it works
unless
someone can tell me different.
