After having been burnt by that similar problems in years gone by, I
always try to make sure that I have TWO SLT's on hand from the prior
version of the system, and backups.

I also make it a habit of running CHECKSLT.MPEXL.TELESUP on the CSLT's
before shutting down to boot off of it.  If there is any problem with
the tape, you will know it up front --- and have an opportunity to make
a new CSLT.

It takes about 20-25 minutes to check the CSLT on a 90mm DAT.

If you use HPINSTAL to cut the tape, you can actually do those checks
while the machine is still up in production.  Then to be safe, use
SLTCOPY to make a second duplicate...
