MIKE STEFFEN writes:
"I scheduled the trip on Monday and by the time I arrived for the interview
on Thursday, the company had been acquired by another firm. The new firm
specialized in migrating applications from mainframes to client-server
technology. I interviewed with the company President, then their VP of
Technology. The second interview was very enlightening. I remember
commenting that I had worn my grey suit when I should have worn my purple
(Barnie the dinosaur) suit and Thanks for the eye-opener."
In Jan. 1999 I interview with a company in Pueblo Co., returned to AZ (where
I lived) and a few days later accepted their job offer. I packed my bags
and drove from Phoenix to Pueblo and started on Tue. Jan. 19. During the
morning I filled out all the necessary HR paperwork and after lunch was
informed the CIO was in town and had called a 'town meeting' of all I.T.
personnel. The CIO announced that the data center wasn't cost effective and
they were going to close it down by June 30, 1999. I was offered a package
to stay and help close down the data center. Up to this point in my career I
had never been hired and given my termination notice in the same day!
