Using DLTtape IV tapes, a DLT7000 is able to store 35GB, 70GB with
compression. A DLT8000 is able to store 40GB, 80GB with compression. A
DLT4000 is able to store 20GB, 40GB with compression. The transfer rates are
also slightly different, DLT7000 will write at 5MB/second, 10MB/second for
compressed data. A DLT8000 will write at 6MB/second, 12MB/second for
compressed data. A DLT4000 will write 1.5MB/second, 3 MB/second for
compressed data.

Using DLTtape III tapes, DLT4000, DLT7000 and DLT8000 drives will all store
10GB, 20GB with compression. The transfer rate will be 1.25 MB/second for
all drives, 2.5 MB/second with compression.

Using DLTtape XT tapes, DLT4000, DLT7000 and DLT8000 drives will all store
15GB, 30GB with compression. The transfer rate will be 1.25 MB/second for
all drives, 2.5 MB/second with compression.

Depending on what your plans are, you may want to look at SDLT.

Kind regards,

How much difference is there between a 8000 and 7000? We're
thinking about consolidation of three separate DLT7000 libraries.
