Gary,
Without a doubt, I believe that DLT is the way to go. It is the most
universally usable tape medium since the round tape. And for good
reason, it's extremely robust AND cost effective compared to DDS or
any other format, IMNHO.

We're taking a look at moving from DDS-2 to either DDS-3 or DLT drives for
tape backup. I've got the performance and storage specs on the drives, but
am wondering if anybody on this list is using either format and has any
comments regarding reliability, tape life, etc, that they would like to
share, for either format. You can email me direct if you like.
Oh, by the way, we are looking at this for our non-HP3000 platforms as well
as the HP3000 platforms, so I'm not limiting this to just what the 3000 can
support.
Thanks,
Gary Dietz
